Prostoria Flagship Store
303 West Illinois St, Chicago, 2024

The main design concept for the interior of Prostoria’s flagship store in Chicago is based on a geometric, modular approach to animating and systematising space. The interior is subverted to the rule of a clean spatial grid of tensed rope, which creates distinct zoning and produces a composed system of standardised spatial units in all three dimensions. These units are then populated with other modular elements like partitions, carpets, and reflective surfaces to create spaces that are simultaneously complex and highly readable.
The superimposed rope grid introduces an element of optical illusion and forced perspective into the structure, infusing the room with a certain exhibition-like quality. This top-down approach to interior design is partially derived from our work in scenography and installation art, whereby we always strive to retain a certain level of play mixed with visual abstraction and geometric regulation when dealing with spatial givens and looking for ways to activate them.
